Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Nash Family Endowed Scholarship

The Nash Family Endowed Scholarship was established by Raymond Nash in March 2019.

Mr. Nash graduated from The University of Akron with an Associate’s of Applied Business in Marketing and Sales Technology (’99) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Education (’02). While in college, Mr. Nash attended evening classes while working full-time at Myers Industries.

Mr. Nash learned the insurance business as an independent insurance broker.  After working as an independent insurance broker for several years, he founded Heirmark, Ltd., where he currently serves as CEO and Principal.  Heirmark, Ltd. provides tailored life insurance strategies to meet the unique business, estate and charitable planning needs for affluent families and business owners.

Mr. Nash established The Nash Family Endowed Scholarship to assist students working while attending the University, similar to his own circumstances as a »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ student.

The Nash Family Endowed Scholarship will be awarded annually to one or more deserving student(s) at The University of Akron who are working full-time or part-time while enrolled in school full-time.  First consideration shall be given to students who are working full-time. The Office of Student Financial Aid will identify candidates for Nash family members consideration (as coordinated by the Department of Development), with final determination made by the Office of Student Financial Aid.  The scholarship will be applied to the recipient(s) student account toward the cost of tuition and fees.
