Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Degnan, Anita Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Anita Degnan Memorial Endowed Scholarship is an endowed fund established to encourage recipients to pursue a college education as a means to further their personal and professional aspirations. Candidates are preferred to be graduates of Wooster High School, the Wayne County Career Center, or Smithville Boys Village who are attending The University of Akron Wayne College. However, any graduate of a Wayne County school may be considered for this scholarship. They must be full-time students demonstrating academic promise and financial need. Candidates are eligible for renewed scholarship assistance provided they remain full-time students at The University of Akron Wayne College and meet the scholarship requirements. It is the donor’s intention for this scholarship to provide significant annual support for no more than four recipients. Funds will be awarded by the dean of The University of Akron Wayne College and the University’s financial aid office to meet the cost of tuition, books, and fees.
