Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Akron Experience Scholarship Fund

As scholarships are a key component in The University of Akron's drive toward student success, The Akron Experience Scholarship Fund was created to assist freshman students enrolled in »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year. The fund will provide need-based awards to deserving students, helping to decrease their financial burden and enabling the University to compete for additional students.

The Akron Experience Scholarship Fund was created through the PNC Bank Scholarship Challenge, whereby new gifts to The Akron Experience Scholarship Fund were matched up to $500,000.

The successful completion of this initiative will provide a total of $1 million in scholarships for freshman students enrolled in »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year. Students from all colleges will benefit from the scholarship, and all monies in The Akron Experience Scholarship Fund will be spent outright as scholarship awards for the 2014-2015 academic year. Recipient selection and award distribution will be done through the Offices of Admissions and Student Financial Aid.
