When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.

The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Normington, Dale A. Scholarship Fund

The Dale A. Normington Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 by Karen Hengle Normington, class of 1966, as a gift to her husband and from their children, Mark R. Normington, Kristen Normington Thomas, and Gene G. Thomas. Mr. Normington received a bachelor of arts degree from The University of Akron in 1966 and a juris doctorate from The University of Akron School of Law in 1969. As an undergraduate, he was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Alpha Delta, and Phi Sigma Alpha honorary societies, and Army ROTC. Mr. Normington has served as associate general counsel for Sherwin-Williams Company since 1995. Mr. Normington is listed in the Law & Business Directory of Corporate Counsel.

Mr. and Mrs. Normington are members of the President’s Club of the John R. Buchtel Society and have provided meaningful support to the Intercollegiate Athletics program and to the School of Law.

The Dale A. Normington Scholarship Fund recognizes Mr. and Mrs. Normington’s commitment to The University of Akron and the value of the education they received as students. The scholarship award will be given to students enrolled at The University of Akron with financial need. The Dale A. Normington Scholarship will be awarded by the Office of Financial Aid at The University of Akron.
