Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Harris Stanton Gallery Visual Arts Rising Senior Scholarship

The Harris Stanton Gallery Visual Arts Rising Senior Scholarship was funded by the 25th Annual silent auction proceeds benefiting local arts nonprofit.  In 2018, the Harris Stanton Gallery selected The University of Akron Mary Schiller Myers School of Art as the silent auction beneficiary.  The auction showcases more than 80 pieces by international and regional artists represented by Harris Stanton Gallery. Auction pieces include jewelry, glass, ceramics and fine art.

The Harris Stanton Gallery Visual Arts Rising Senior Scholarship will be awarded to a full- or part-time senior with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 who is majoring in visual arts and in need of financial assistance. The student must be in good academic standing and remain so while completing degree requirements at The University of Akron Mary Schiller Myers School of Art.  The recipient will be chosen through the annual Myers Studio Scholarship Competition with approval by the Director of The Mary Schiller Myers School of Art or by the University Scholarship Committee if the department is unable to do so.
