Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Barone Family Scholarship for University of Akron Baseball

The Barone Family Scholarship for University of Akron Baseball was established in 2021 by Carlo (Carl) and Ricardo (Rick) Barone and revised in 2022 to offer renewability to recipients. Both men are 1994 graduates of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥'s College of Business Administration and have had a lifelong passion for baseball. As »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ students, Carl and Rick valued their academic and athletic experiences and hope to provide similar opportunities for current and future team members of the Zips baseball program.

The Barone Family Scholarship for University of Akron Baseball was established to provide one baseball student-athlete with a scholarship. The recipient may be an incoming freshman or an active team member. The recipient must be an Ohio resident with first consideration given to a student-athlete from the greater Cleveland area. The recipient must have a demonstrated financial need, as defined by FAFSA's generated Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC must be less than the cost of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥'s tuition and fees. Selection of the recipient will be made by the »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Men's Baseball coaching staff, awarding the scholarship as funds are available. This scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient remains in good standing and continues to meet the above criteria.
