Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Renninger, Terry and Elizabeth Endowed Scholarship

The Terry and Elizabeth Renninger Endowed Scholarship was established in 2012 (and revised in 2016) through the generosity of alumni Terry J. ’63 and Elizabeth Renninger. The couple wish to support and encourage University of Akron students who have demonstrated the capacity and motivation to achieve significant educational and career goals and have developed leadership skills by participating in student activities, working, and volunteering.

To be considered for The Terry and Elizabeth Renninger Endowed Scholarship, students must:

  • Be enrolled full time as sophomores, juniors, or seniors at The University of Akron
  • Be pursuing a degree in the College of Business Administration, the Lebron James Family Foundation College of Education, or the School of Nursing

Preference will be given to students who are actively involved in student activities, work to pay for tuition, or volunteer

Selection of recipients will be made by Terry and/or Elizabeth Renninger. If the Renningers are unable to select the recipient(s), selection will be made by the Office of Student Financial Aid, using the required criteria.
