Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Read, Roger T. and Judith A. Endowed Scholarship in Business Administration

As strong benefactors and loyal advocates of their alma mater, Roger and Judy Read demonstrate their support across many areas of The University of Akron, from academic areas to arts and culture to intercollegiate athletics. For the Reads, students are a priority, as they have demonstrated by establishing named scholarships in the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Fine and Applied Arts. The Roger T. and Judith A. Read Endowed Scholarship in Business Administration represents the third scholarship award they have established at The University of Akron.

A scholarship bearing the Read name in the College of Business Administration is fitting and appropriate, given Roger’s history with the College. He received a BS in management in 1963 and an MBA in 1966. His affiliation with his alma mater continued as an active alumni volunteer through most of his professional career with the Harwick Chemical Company, and in 1989 he was a recipient of the highest honor the College of Business Administration bestows upon graduates, the Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Award. Mr. Read is a current member and past chairman of the College of Business Administration’s Advancement Council, as well as an active member of the Council’s nominating committee, and he has been instrumental in recruiting new members for service.

In establishing The Roger T. and Judith A. Read Endowed Scholarship in Business Administration, it is the Reads' desire to support juniors and seniors in the College of Business Administration who have maintained a 3.5 GPA in their collegiate studies, with selection of recipients made by the College of Business Administration’s Scholarship Committee.
