Akron University Police Patrolmen’s Association/Charles L. Penn and Brian Roshong Memorial Scholarship

The Akron University Police Patrolmen’s Association/Charles L. Penn and Brian Roshong Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 by the Akron University Police Patrolmen’s Association (AUPPA) Inc. This endowed fund honors Charles Lee Penn Jr. and Brian Roshong. Both men left an indelible impression on the lives of those around them.

Penn (September 26, 1948 – May 30, 1976) graduated from Canton Lehman High School and The University of Akron. Penn served with The University of Akron police force in 1973 and attended the University’s first Police Academy in 1974. After graduation, Penn accepted a commission with the United States Army and, unfortunately, died in Korea while on duty.

Roshong (March 10, 1972 – May 22, 1996) was a native of Canton, Ohio, and graduated from Perry High School in Massillon. Roshong came to The University of Akron Police Department Basic Training Academy in 1994, following a career as a military intelligence specialist in the United States Army. Roshong held positions with both the Cambridge Police Department and the City of Canton Police Department. Roshong fell victim to a fatal gunshot wound in the line of duty in 1996.
