Larson, Ralph and Regina Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Ralph and Regina Larson Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in June 2013 through a gift from the Larson family. Longtime residents of Akron, Ohio, Ralph and Regina Larson had a profound impact on family, friends, and colleagues. They were married for 62 years and maintained a deep and abiding faith, love, and devotion to one another. They raised their two children in a life of faith at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Ralph was a wonderful man and true educator. He was a formal and informal leader throughout his life. He had a great sense of humor and humility and enjoyed helping others with his insights with great timing. He was an outstanding athlete at the high school and collegiate levels in football, basketball, swimming, and golf, to name a few. During WWII he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. After the war he married, was a devoted husband and outstanding father, earned his undergraduate and master's degrees in education, and worked formally and informally as an educator for many decades - until the day he died.

Regina was a beautiful woman, inside and out. Her photos were often in the Akron Beacon Journal since she was also photogenic. She and Ralph enjoyed many friendships, as well as traveling to visit family and friends. She also was a loving daughter, wife, mom, nana, and great-grandmother. Their family consists of two children, four grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Regina and Ralph could have fun when entertaining or just doing daily activities with their kids.

The Larson family had a great appreciatlon for higher education, professionalism, a strong work ethic, sound personal and professional fiscal management, and teaching and leading by example. Ralph worked as an outstanding, respected administrator at The University of Akron for many years. Regina was one of the top realtors in Akron soon after beginning work in that field. She also was very involved with the Faculty Women's group.

Both are lovingly missed by their family and friends. This scholarship opportunity for College of Education students has been created in their memory.

Mark G. Larson and Jeanine Larson-Dobbins, both graduates of The University of Akron College of Education, invite and encourage family and friends to join in supporting this fund. This memorial scholarship serves as a tribute to Ralph's and Regina's commitment to helping others.

Potential scholarship candidates must be enrolled full time in The University of Akron College of Education. The Larson family and the College of Education dean's office will select the recipients annually. The Ralph and Regina Larson Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund will provide last dollars for tuition to candidates meeting the criteria established. No refund checks should be generated as a result of this scholarship award.
