Mitchell, Edith Delaney Endowed Scholarship

The Edith Delaney Mitchell Endowed Scholarship was established in 1975 by Zeta Theta Omega Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in honor of the first black graduate from Teacher's College of The University of Akron, class of 1933. The scholarship was revised in 1987, 1995, and in July 2024.

Zeta Theta Omega, the alumnae chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, annually awards a scholarship to University of Akron students in their sophomore, junior or first semester senior year at The University of Akron. The candidate shall exhibit high ethical standards, have financial need, and hold a grade point average of 3.0 or higher to be eligible for consideration.

The chapter's scholarship committee will choose recipients based on recommendations either provided by The University Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid or by the chapter's scholarship committee. The latter recommendations must have their scholarship criteria verified by the Office of Financial Aid.
