Akron Press Club Scholarship Program

The Akron Press Club Scholarship Program was created in 1999 by the board of The Akron Press Club to recognize colleges and universities within a five-county area that actively support the Press Club. For the first five years of the program, an annual award will be presented to a deserving junior or senior student who is majoring in communications, journalism, or public relations at The University of Akron. The annual award will increase for the sixth and subsequent years of the program.

To be eligible, a student must have junior or senior status at The University of Akron during the semester in which the award will be paid; demonstrate outstanding academic performance as evidenced by his or her academic transcript; be pursuing a declared major in communications, journalism, or public relations; and show professional promise through a track record of involvement in professional work or internships or student activities related to the field; samples of work, and an essay describing plans for a career in communications, journalism, or public relations. Based upon the aforementioned criteria, the University's scholarship committee will select a recipient. A student may receive the award a maximum of two times by going through the application and review process, but the award cannot be renewed automatically.

The Akron Press Club Scholarship will be promoted in all literature concerning awards and in presentations to prospective students. A member of the Press Club's Board will be present to make the award, and each annual award will be publicized by the University with prominent mention of The Akron Press Club.
