Heideman, Bill Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in October of 1994, The Bill Heideman Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the memory of William N. Heideman, respected coach, mentor, and friend to so many during his lifetime as a member of the Akron community. Based on his participation in track/cross country while a student at The University of Akron and on the immense impact he had on high school track in Akron as a coach at Buchtel High School, this scholarship shall be awarded annually to a male or female member of the University's track/cross country team. Preference will be given to student-athletes who are graduates of a school in the Akron Public School system or from a school located in Summit County. The recipient must be eligible to compete as a first-year freshman under NCAA rules, must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in high school, and shall be a person of exemplary character, high moral standards, and integrity. It is the wish of the Heideman family that, providing he/she remains academically eligible with a minimum GPA of 2.5, the same student-athlete receives this award each year until he/she concludes eligibility.
