Folk, Harold K. and Catherine F. Endowed Fund

The Harold K. and Catherine F. Folk Endowed Fund was established to advance the mission of The University of Akron and support the preparation of students of The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy for careers as competent and responsible accounting professionals and business leaders.

In 1991, Harold K. and Catherine F. Folk established a charitable remainder unitrust with The University of Akron Foundation named as the remainder beneficiary. This gift was made by Mr. and Mrs. Folk to name The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy in the College of Business Administration.

George W. Daverio Sr. was a self-made man who was both teacher and practitioner.  Mr. Daverio led the Akron accounting firm of Chilton, Stump and Daverio.  He also taught accounting and federal taxation for many years at The University of Akron.

The Daverio family legacy continues at The University of Akron through the late George W. Daverio, Jr. and his wife, Karen.  George Jr. served as a member of The University of Akron Foundation Board from 1994 to 2020 and was named an honorary alumnus of The University of Akron, along with Karen, in 2019.

Distributions from The Harold K. and Catherine F. Folk Endowed Fund will be used at the discretion of the Dean of the College of Business Administration to advance the mission, goals and priorities of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy. This will be done in consultation with the school’s department chair.
