Pollock, Arthur Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Economics

The Arthur Pollock Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Economics was created in September 2011 and revised in September 2022. Arthur Pollock, an Economics Professor in Community & Technical College at The University of Akron from 1967-1995, passed away unexpectedly in March 2011. This scholarship was created by his wife, Joan Pollock, and endowed through the many gifts received from family, friends, students, and colleagues in memory of Art.

Art was an excellent teacher, dedicated to his students and committed to the faculty and its role in the larger University. He was also committed to his community and served on several boards including InfoLine, The Area Agency on Aging and Metro Transit System. He was the first president of the Summit County Port Authority board which he helped create in 1993.

Art, an avid reader, had many interests, and enjoyed researching and expanding his knowledge. He rarely said, "I don't know anything about that." And, if he did, he would spend time researching the subject to become better informed. He seldom turned away from a good debate.

He was also involved politically and supported candidates whom he personally believed could make a difference. After retirement, he became involved in his condo associations both in Akron and Florida, serving as an officer on the board in each.

Art was dedicated to his family, the University, and his community. He was a humble man of high morals and integrity, and he believed in involving himself where he felt he could make a contribution or a difference.

The Arthur Pollock Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Economics was established in support of undergraduate students (junior or senior ranking) majoring in economics or business data analytics, who demonstrate outstanding personal characteristics (an average student, with a strong work ethic and integrity, who has a strong desire to excel in college). Recipients of The Arthur Pollock Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Economics will be selected by the Department of Economics.
