McMinn, Robert and Janet Scholarship

Robert McMinn ’72 and his wife, Janet, established The Robert and Janet McMinn Scholarship in 2004 to assist students pursuing degrees in accounting in The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration. An active alumni volunteer and benefactor of the College of Business Administration, Mr. McMinn is past chairman of the College’s Advancement Council and has been a member of the Council since 1991. He also has served as the chairman of the College of Business Administration Alumni Board and as a member of the University’s National Alumni Board. He was instrumental in the establishment of the College of Business Administration Alumni Scholarship (now the Frank L. Simonetti Scholarship) and has been a frequent guest lecturer in the Professor for a Day program. As a partner in the accounting firm of Ciulla, Smith & Dale, Mr. McMinn is a tremendous advocate for University of Akron accounting students, offerering numerous students valuable practical experience through internships with the firm.

Establishing a scholarship to assist students in their academic pursuits in The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration is another example of the McMinn’s commitment to student success. In selecting scholarship recipients, first preference will be given to junior or senior accounting majors who are graduates of the following high schools: Nordonia High School in Macedonia, Ohio (Mr. McMinn’s alma mater); Lorain County Joint Vocational School in Oberlin, Ohio (Mrs. McMinn’s longtime employer); and students from North Ridgeville High School in North Ridgeville, Ohio (Mrs. McMinn’s alma mater and the community where the McMinns reside). Should no applicants who meet this requirement apply, preference then will go to junior or senior accounting majors with no regard to their high school alma mater. Selection will be made by the chair of the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy, with input from Mr. and Mrs. McMinn during their lifetimes.

Students should apply in writing to the College of Business Administration scholarship committee to express their interest in The Robert and Janet McMinn Scholarship and to indicate their need for financial assistance.
