Suarez Corporation Industries Scholarship for Direct Marketing

The Suarez Corporation Industries Scholarship for Director Marketing was established in 1997 by Suarez Corporation Industries (SCI) and Benjamin D. Suarez, an alumnus of The University of Akron. Since SCI regularly recruits University of Akron graduates, this scholarship is designed to promote the study of direct marketing. Twelve scholarships for tuition and materials are provided each semester for students in the Direct Marketing course in the College of Business Administration. Qualified applicants will be business students who will have attained sophomore, junior, or senior standing by fall 1997. First preference will be given to marketing majors. Scholarship selection is dependent upon learning ability, judgment, creativity, the ability to envision things that do not yet exist, verbal skills, ambition, drive, persistence, the entrepreneurial spirit, and salesmanship. The process of recipient selection for scholarship will be jointly conducted by the Department of Marketing and the SCI Education Manager. Direct marketing is a term describing "remote" sales to prospective customers where advertising costs and sales results are measured and reported in a timely manner. Used by most Fortune 500 Companies, consumer and business-to-business direct marketing growth is outpacing total U.S. sales growth. Areas of course study include direct mail, catalog, telemarketing, television, newspaper, magazine, internet, computer database, customer and prospect segmentation, research, testing, and customer lifetime value.
