Engler, Edward M. Scholarship Endowment

The Edward M. Engler Scholarship Endowment was originally established by Mr. Engler in 2001 and updated in 2020 to reflect his continuing commitment to education and bettering the lives of students.

Mr. Engler is a life-long educator, whose devotion to music (piano) and politics supports his belief that education should produce well-rounded individuals. He retired from teaching and serving as president of the Revere Education Association for the Revere Local School District, which was formed in the early 1950s after the communities of Bath and Richfield voted to combine their two smaller school systems.  Mr. Engler taught Social Studies at Revere High School from 1970 to his retirement in 1998 and was a recipient of the district’s Distinguished Educator Award.

Mr. Engler is a three-time graduate of The University of Akron, receiving a B.A. in political science (1969), B.A.Ed. in secondary education-social studies (1970), and his M.A. in history (1975).  As a student, Mr. Engler was a member of the Phi Alpha Theta (history), Pi Sigma Alpha (political science), and Phi Sigma Alpha (arts and sciences) honorary societies, as well as the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.  From 1987 to 1998, he also served as a lecturer in history and humanities/western traditions at the University.

The Edward M. Engler Scholarship Endowment will be awarded annually to outstanding University of Akron students, with recipients receiving up to $2,500 for the year.  Recipients should be selected from the School of Nursing, and secondarily, from the School of Education. All recipients should be students in good standing and carry strong grade point averages.

Recipients will be selected by the University Scholarship Committee. The scholarship is renewable and selected recipients may receive the scholarship through the completion of their senior year provided they retain eligibility and remain in good standing with the University and their respective School.
