College of Engineering and Polymer Science Student Assistance Fund

The College of Engineering and Polymer Science Student Assistance Fund was originally established as The College of Engineering Student Assistance Fund in 2020 in recognition of The University of Akron's 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary to support engineering students. It was created at the request of Dr. Craig C. Menzemer, current dean of the College, and other College leaders, who recognized a growing need to financially support engineering students facing economic hardships. Alumni and friends of the College provided funding to offer encouragement and inspiration to students working diligently to become engineers. The College of Engineering and Polymer Science Student Assistance Fund was endowed in 2022 thanks to the generosity of University of Akron alumnus, Larry Allen '70, and his wife, Susan. The fund's name was changed to reflect the new name of the College.

The College of Engineering and Polymer Science Student Assistance Fund is a safety net, providing emergency funding when unexpected events threaten to disrupt or prevent a student's educational pursuit. Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books or living expenses, including housing, utilities, food, and other unforeseen, bona fide emergency expenses as approved by the College of Engineering and Polymer Science Dean's office. Funds used for expenses other than qualified educational expenses are reportable and may be taxable to the recipient.
