Dunlap, Dr. James W. Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Dr. James W, Dunlap Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 by individuals who graduated from The University of Akron College of Business Administration during Dr. Dunlap's tenure as Dean of the College. The fund was established to show their sincere appreciation for his leadership while serving as Dean of the College of Business Administration, and to show the value they placed on his friendship both during his tenure and after. Dr. Dunlap currently has served as the longest tenured Dean of the College of Business Administration from 1970-1989. His leadership and support of student activities greatly assisted the growth and development of many students during his years of service to the College of Business Administration. Dean Dunlap was always a favorite with students because of his concern and dedication to the students and is therefore affectionately known as "The Student's Dean."
During his tenure with The University of Akron, Dean Dunlap oversaw a College whose enrollment tripled. He is credited with building a strong foundation on which the College of Business Administration could grow into the future. The College of Business Administration and The George W. Daverio School of Accountancy earned AACSB accreditation at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the College of Business Administration gained national recognition for its student organizations with honoraries such as Beta Alpha Psi and Pi Sigma Epsilon winning top national honors. He recognized the emergence of international business markets, particularly in Asia, and instituted programs to expose students to this area of growth.
The Dr. James W. Dunlap Endowed Scholarship Fund recipient(s) will be at the junior or senior grade level enrolled in the College of Business Administration pursuing any one of the College's academic programs. First consideration will go to students who demonstrate strong interest and participation in the College of Business Administration student organizations, particularly Pi Sigma Epsilon, Beta Gamma Sigma, Delta Sigma Pi, Beta Alpha Psi, Toastmasters and the International Business Association. The Dunlap Scholar(s) should maintain a minimum 3. 0 grade point average and have achieved at least one semester on the Dean's list.
