Acus III, M.D., Raymond W./Timothy J. Myer, M.D. Endowed Fund

The Raymond W. Acus III, M.D./Timothy J. Myer, M.D. Endowed Fund was established in 2003 by Dr. Ray Acus III and Dr. Timothy Myer, dedicated team physicians in the field of Orthopedics for The University of Akron. The endowed fund provides scholarship assistance for a student at The University of Akron who ideally is pursuing a degree in Athletic Training for Sports Medicine and does clinical hours with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The recipient of this scholarship will be chosen by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Sports Medicine Staff and the team physicians. With an emphasis on promoting diversity and creating access to higher education for all, preference for the scholarship should be given to students who come from a diverse background who are in financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid, have strong leadership abilities, and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Consideration also should be given to students who are the first in their families to attend college.

In awarding the scholarships, the Selection Committee and the Office of Financial Aid will consider each student’s economic and social background, as well as his or her academic achievement. Recognizing the value of diversity, the Selection Committee and the Office of Financial Aid will seek students from a variety of backgrounds so that the University will be comprised of students with varied interests, viewpoints, and life expectancies.
