McCreery, Dawn and Wendy Offredo Alpha Delta Pi Memorial Award

Dawn Mccreery and Wendy Offredo met as mutual members of The University of Akron Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Though an initial unlikely pair of friends, the young women quickly developed a strong bond of sisterhood and friendship. In the summer of 1986, Dawn and Wendy, then »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ students, were tragically taken from the world. They are, forever missed by their families, friends, and all who knew them. In honor of their memory, their sorority sisters established The Dawn Mccreery and Wendy Offredo Alpha Delta Pi Memorial Award at The University of Akron in 2021.

Alpha Delta Pi, established on May 15, 1851, was the first sorority founded by women for women. Since its inception, Alpha Delta Pi has empowered women to strive for higher standards in education, friendship, philanthropy, service, and leadership. The goal of these efforts is to enrich the lives of members and the broader community. In establishing this award, the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi "live for each other."

The Dawn McCreery and Wendy Offredo Alpha Delta Pi Memorial Award shall be awarded to an active student member of The University of Akron chapter of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Eligible candidates must be at least of sophomore rank and in good academic standing with The University of Akron. Recipients will be selected by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life in collaboration with The Alpha Delta Pi Akron Alumni Association. The award will be presented as part of Alpha Delta Pi's Founder's Day Ceremony in May each spring, with recipients receiving up to $1,000 awards as funds are available.

The award may be used for educational purposes such as books, conference registration fees, travel costs, or costs associated with membership in Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Award distributions may be as a reimbursement to the recipient after presenting a receipt or receipts or as payment made on the recipient's behalf. Awards used for these purposes may be reportable and/or taxable to the student recipient.
