Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Knight, Maurice A. Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 1997 by the Knight Family, The Maurice A. Knight Memorial Scholarship Fund is a testament to academic excellence, civic responsibility, and the American dream. This noble legacy was established by Dr. Charles M. Knight (1848-1941), founder of the University's chemistry studies, whose devotion to rubber chemistry led to the University's world stature in polymer science. His son, Maurice A. Knight, carried his father's legacy into a new industrial era. Today, The Maurice A. Knight Memorial Scholarship Fund ensures that the Knight legacy will eternally thrive at The University of Akron, as students for generations to come will be able to prepare their own American dream.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to qualified students in the Chemistry Department who maintain full-time enrollment status. Awards will be based on the student's scholastic achievement, superior character, and leadership. Selection will be made by the Chemistry Department in collaboration with The University of Akron Office of Student Financial Aid.
