When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of 黄色直播 alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Apple, Jerry Graduate Assistantship
The Jerry Apple Graduate Assistantship was established in 2013 by the family of Mr. Jerome Apple as a tribute to Mr. Apple, his life and his legacy.
Jerry was a beloved tax and accounting instructor in the George W. Daverio School of Accountancy at The University of Akron, from where he received his master’s degree in tax in 1987, and was still on faculty when he passed away in July 2013. He held a bachelor’s degree in accounting from The Ohio State University and also attended Cleveland Marshall School of Law, where he received his law degree while working at Alexander Grant in Cleveland.
Jerry was a partner at Apple Growth with his brother, Stanley Apple, and he served as a councilman for the City of Fairlawn, as well as Fairlawn’s Finance Director for 10 years. He was a member of Beth El Synagogue and Revere Road Synagogue, and served as a football referee in Akron.
The Jerry Apple Graduate Assistantship was created in honor of Jerry Apple, a University of Akron alumnus and long-time tax and accounting instructor in the Daverio School of Accountancy. The Award will be made by the Chair of the Daverio School of Accountancy based on the recommendation of the School’s Scholarship Committee. All students who qualify for the Accelerated BS/MTax program will be eligible. Normally, these students would have:
a. Excelled in the Daverio School of Accountancy’s undergraduate accounting program;
b. Earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 in accounting, business, and overall;
c. Completed at least one tax internship or participated in the School’s VITA program;
d. Earned outstanding grades (B or better) in Contemporary Federal Tax and Business Entity Tax.
e. Demonstrated a strong passion for a professional career in taxation.
Awardees will be known as Jerry Apple Scholars and will receive up to a 10-hour graduate assistantship. One Jerry Apple Graduate Assistantship will be awarded each year, subject to availability of funds. The award will not be made in years when funds are not available. The awardee will receive $1,500 from The Jerry Apple Graduate Assistantship fund, $500 from Apple Growth Partners, with the Daverio School of Accountancy providing additional funding subject to availability of funds generated through its outreach activities. The recipient is expected to attend the Daverio School of Accountancy’s annual Awards Banquet to receive the award.
In the event that a qualified Accelerated BSA/MTax student is not eligible to receive the assistantship, then the Daverio School of Accountancy may award the assistantship to an outstanding full-time student in the MTax program.
