When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.

The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

University of Akron Black Leadership Alumni Council Endowed Scholarship

The University of Akron Black Leadership Alumni Council Endowed Scholarship was established in April 2023 as part of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥'s We Rise Together Campaign. The University of Akron Black Leadership Alumni Council serves to promote, advance, and facilitate the engagement of black students and alumni as an integral component of the inclusion strategy of the institution. The council empowers members and associates through community building, fellowship, and internal and external networking activities on a continuous basis. The council's objective is to maximize the engagement of members within the life of the University. This engagement includes, but is not limited to, promoting institutional diversity and inclusion, recruitment and retention of black alumni, faculty, staff, and students.

Through this scholarship the »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Black Leadership Alumni Council seeks to uplift those who uplift the black community.

Recipients of The University of Akron Black Leadership Alumni Council Endowed Scholarship shall be full- or part-time undergraduate students enrolled in any major at The University of Akron who have financial need. This scholarship is dedicated to students who have made contributions to the Black community through leadership, service, research, participating in recognized student organizations, and/or volunteering.

Selection of the recipient(s) will be determined by the University Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid. Scholarship amounts may vary as funds are available.
