Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Colucci, Ruth and Nancy Wilcox Endowed Scholarship

In celebration of The University of Akron’s Sesquicentennial, Anthony P. Colucci, III established The Ruth Colucci and Nancy Wilcox Endowed Scholarship in 2019. Anthony received his bachelor’s degree from the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at The University of Akron in 2012.

He has named this scholarship in honor of his grandmothers, Ruth (Loeffel) Colucci and Nancy (Thomas) Wilcox, the two earliest contributors to his education outside of his parents. When Anthony was born, Ruth left her job to provide daycare and pre-school education for him until he entered kindergarten, at which time she continued to provide after-school care for several years.  Nancy’s life was dedicated to education as a long-time teacher with the Ashtabula Area City Schools, always emphasizing the importance of education. In gratitude for their impact in his life, Anthony established this endowed scholarship to continue their legacy by impacting students at the University of Akron for years to come.

The Ruth Colucci and Nancy Wilcox Endowed Scholarship shall be used to support students with financial need in good academic standing, with preference given to students in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences. Scholarship award decisions will be made by the Office of Financial Aid.
