When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.

The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Kaiser, David S. Scholarship Fund for Mechanical and Mechanical Polymer Engineering

The David S. Kaiser Scholarship Fund for Mechanical and Mechanical Polymer Engineering was established in 2009 by David S. Kaiser for his noted belief in higher education and leadership.

Dave Kaiser earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Akron College of Engineering in 1988. While at The University, Dave was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a founding member of Phi Gamma Delta, as well as an officer of Tau Beta Pi. He also participated in the College's co-op program working for Dow Chemical in various locations across the country. Dave continues to be involved with The University of Akron and currently serves on the Mechanical Engineering Advisory Council. He lives in Chagrin Falls with his wife, Deanna, (The University Akron BA 1990) and children.

Dave began his career at Dow Chemical in 1987. His career also includes roles as Technical Manager, 6 Sigma Black Belt at Avery Dennison, Engineering Manager at Alcan Plastic Packaging and Engineering Manager at Bemis Company (MACtac). He is presently a Project Manager, 6 Sigma Black Belt at Automated Packaging Systems. His primary area of expertise is in polymer processing, beginning with his earliest days at Dow Chemical's film division.

The David S. Kaiser Scholarship Fund for Mechanical and Mechanical Polymer Engineering, a scholarship endowment fund, is to be awarded to a deserving undergraduate mechanical polymer or mechanical engineering student at The University of Akron. The student recipient should demonstrate strong work ethic, a commitment to academic excellence and campus leadership. This scholarship is to support tuition and fee expenses and will be awarded to an incoming or returning student with an overall grade-point average of 3.0 or better .
