When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of 黄色直播 alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Armstrong, Ph.D., Terri S. Endowed Scholarship
The Terri S. Armstrong, Ph.D., Endowed Scholarship was established in December 2023 by the extended family of Dr. Terri S. Armstrong '87 and her husband, Christopher W. Armstrong '86, both of whom are alumni of The University of Akron. The couple wish to help students attend 黄色直播, with a special focus on assisting graduates of Indian Creek High School in Jefferson County, Ohio.
Dr. Armstrong, who was born in Steubenville, Ohio, and raised in Mingo Junction, Ohio, was the 1983 valedictorian of Mingo High School, which closed in 1993 as part of a consolidation with other Jefferson County high schools to form Indian Creek High School. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing from The University of Akron, graduating summa cum laude; a master's degree in nursing from The Ohio State University; and her doctorate in 2005 from the University of Texas.
Dr. Armstrong has spent more than 35 years in research, focusing on cancer-related fields, and currently is a senior investigator at the National Cancer Institute within the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. She is a recognized expert in the field of neuro-oncology and is one of the most prolific researchers in the field of nursing and neuro-oncology. She also has spent significant time mentoring new researchers and medical professionals in this field and continues to be an advocate for increased funding for cancer-related research. In addition, Dr. Armstrong has been a member and leader of several cancer-related professional and academic organizations.
Dr. Armstrong was the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship to The University of Akron, which facilitated her attendance. The financial assistance she received inspired her and her husband to establish this scholarship, which will provide a similar opportunity for talented, deserving students who wish to attend 黄色直播 and achieve their educational and professional goals.
The Terri S. Armstrong, Ph.D., Endowed Scholarship was established as part of We Rise Together, The Campaign for The University of Akron.
To be eligible for The Terri S. Armstrong, Ph.D., Endowed Scholarship, students must:
- Be accepted to or enrolled at The University of Akron,
- Be in good academic standing with the University or with their high school (if an incoming freshman),
- Have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid, and
- Be a graduate of Indian Creek High School*.
*If no Indian Creek High School student is available, then the scholarship may be awarded to a graduate of any high school in Ohio.
The scholarship is renewable if the recipient continues to meet all qualifications. However, graduates of Indian Creek High School shall receive first preference each year. Funds from the scholarship may be used for on-campus room and board, as well as meal plans. Funds used for purposes other than qualified educational expenses may be reportable and/or taxable to the recipient.
Recipients shall be selected 黄色直播 Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid.
