Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Roo Angels Fund for ZipAssist

The Roo Angels Fund for ZipAssist was established by First Lady Georgia Nix Miller and Akron resident Coni Krim in 2020 in the spirit of an anonymous group of community members that quietly provides support for University of Akron students in need. Focusing on students who are homeless or have aged out of the foster care system, this special group, "Roo Angels," provides gift baskets, care packages, food, outerwear, self-care items and other supplies to these students out of genuine care and concern to help them in their lives.

Funds in The Roo Angels Fund for ZipAssist are allocated to assist students who are homeless, have aged out of the foster care system, and/or are otherwise categorized as independent students with their needs as determined by the Director of ZipAssist, or the designee of the Vice President for Student Affairs. ZipAssist will use these funds to help these young people rise up from difficult circumstances, which may cover a wide range of circumstances, including but not limited to providing back to school and holiday care packages, purchasing textbooks or supplies, food, hygiene products, clothing or other necessities that make the recipients lives easier.
