Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

We Rise Together Scholarship

Originally established by an anonymous donor in 2012 in support of the Business Practitioner—Organizational Communications position in the College of Business Administration, the We Rise Together Scholarship was revised in 2020 to support The University of Akron’s recruitment and retention initiatives.

As an institution of opportunity for students who dream of earning a degree in higher education and one of promises kept, the University is committed to finding ways to provide higher education opportunities to a more diverse student body and providing them the support, resources and experiences needed for a successful journey.  The We Rise Together Scholarship will help the University recruit underrepresented students who have the courage, resiliency and determination to learn, but not the financial means to do so.  The We Rise Together Scholarship will also help students stay in college and complete their degree, even when they are their only support system and may have no other financial resources are available.

The Director of the Office of Student Financial Aid will administer the We Rise Together Scholarship, providing scholarships that increase the diversity of the University’s student body, help underrepresented students who have financial need, assist Adult Focus students with degree completion, support students whose Expected Family Contribution (EFC) precludes them from receiving adequate financial assistance, and other high needs of scholarship support as approved further by the donor.
