Testing Options for »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Courses

Click Here for »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥'s Remote Testing Agreement

The University of Akron offers a variety of options for course testing. In all situations, the faculty member is the final authority that determines which options are enabled for your course. Check the syllabus to determine what the instructor requires for each course. If test delivery modality is remote proctoring or monitoring, students will be required to acknowledge the Remote Proctoring / Monitoring Agreement posted at the bottom of this page. Students are encouraged to speak with their instructors regarding options, and any potential barriers or concerns in the testing process.

Some options available to faculty to include are:

  1. Proctoring at a »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Testing Center if set up by faculty:
    • Faculty should contact the test center to arrange proctoring.
    • Hours vary by semester and test center location, and proctoring services may differ across locations.
    • Students will need to present valid photo identification at any »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ test center, and are encouraged to schedule an appointment.
  2. Find an alternative approved testing center:
    • If your exam must be proctored and your student cannot come to a »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ testing center, they may be able to locate a nearby test center through the , a referral source for professional testing centers that proctor for other institutions. All sites adhere to the NCTA standards and guidelines. Testing staff can assist in locating a test center.
    • If your student is enrolled in online only courses, lives more than 50 miles from »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥, and is unable to take your exam on campus, please contact Online Learning Services for proctoring options.
    • If your student lives within 50 miles of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ or they are also taking on-campus courses at »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥, the student is responsible for any off-campus testing fees, scheduling time and date of proctoring, and communicating with faculty regarding plans. There are no fees associated with course testing at »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ testing centers, or use of software within Brightspace.
  3. Respondus Monitor is a companion application for Brightspace that uses webcam and video technology to identify students during the exam. Instructors may select to use Respondus Monitor as a record-and-review option, in place of proctored exams.
    • If the instructor has enabled Respondus Monitor, students will find an orientation and sample quiz in the course.
    • Students are responsible for ensuring that they are able to take their exam in a private location. Because the exam is video recorded, students should select a quiet room where they are able to test without distractions.
    • Students are responsible for ensuring that they know what materials are allowed for use during the exam, if any. This should be clearly stated in the course and/or syllabus. If students have any questions, they should contact their instructor.
    • Students are responsible for ensuring their computer meets the technology requirements.
    • If students do not have a suitable location or access to appropriate equipment, they may reach out to the »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ testing centers or arrange a private room on-campus (e.g. study room in Bierce Library, contact instructor for locations in department).
  4. Other proctoring solutions may be in place in specific courses. In some cases, instructors may specify alternative proctoring solutions. Online proctoring services, such as , , , , and are some options. The University of Akron does not endorse use of specific online proctoring services, but have provided these for instructor's convenience. If instructors provide alternative proctoring solutions, they should include an orientation and further instructions in your course orientation module.
